After 13 years, the company has now provided over 200,000 responses, with 13,000 hours of flight and 5,500 patients transported. As a result, Amil Regate Saúde, a pioneer in Latin America, is considered the best Aero-medical Rescue Service in South America. It currently operates with one Cessna Citation II jet airplane, helicopters and 23 ambulances.

Amil Resgate Saúde is a benchmark in rescue missions, collaborating with government organs and part of the Response Plans for Major Catastrophes, managed by the Fire Departments of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

With three bases working in a 24-hour on-duty regime (in Rio, in Barra da Tijuca and Niteroi; in São Paulo, at Alphaville), Resgate has 41 intensive physicians, 47 nurses and technicians, 10 pilots, 22 drivers and 6 aircraft mechanics, one aeronautical engineer and 4 rescue coordinators.
THE ORIGINS
Aeromil started out buying two Esquilo AS-350-B2 helicopters, a French model, then recently launched, plus two ambulances on the ground that were literally mobile ICU's. In 1994, with the need to expand the area of action of its aero-medical rescue service over Brazilian territory and the neighboring countries, the company purchased a Citation SII jet, manufactured by Cessna in the United States. This model left the factory already configured for medical attention, following the most advanced techniques for rescue.
BENCHMARK
The professionals who work at Amil Resgate Saúde are unanimous in asserting that the service is currently a benchmark in Latin America. It is a model, not only for its technology, but also for the mentality of pre-hospital medicine implanted in our country. "We may state, invoking comments from colleagues in other areas, that we have changed the concepts of urgent and emergency attention, and calls that require the first treatment at the site and transportation to specialized hospitals and services", asserts Dino Roberto Gomes, manager of Amil Resgate Saúde in Rio de Janeiro.

The members of Amil Resgate Saúde are proud to belong to the team, and are conscious that their work has changed the concept of urgent medical attention in Brazil. Doctors from other public and private institutions attribute to the company the spread of a new concept of urgent medicine, in the figure of the "emergency specialist". The members of the service make a point of stating that, rather than a team jersey, they put on the overalls of Amil Resgate Saúde, and cannot hide the satisfaction they feel when they get a patient to one of the hospitals and their colleagues, after the necessary medical procedures, contact them to learn what resources are available to the population, 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
BASES
Amil Resgate Saúde has three operational bases; - two in Rio de Janeiro (Piratininga, in Niterói, and Jacarepaguá, in Barra da Tijuca), and one in São Paulo (Alphaville). The São Paulo base, opened 13 years ago in Alphaville, has a Medical Emergency Center which is now part of the life of those living in the region. When anyone needs medical attention, the first place they look is the service that has become a reference point in the region.
PREVENTIVE ATTENTION
As well as participating in operations that simulate accidents at the country's major airports, Amil Resgate Saúde develops activities such as instructions for communities on how to proceed with persons who have sustained an accident before the medical services arrive.
